Our Lady's College of Ireland Wins Third Annual Empire!
Becomes first international school to win competition
The victorious Our Lady's College of Ireland with Chief Justice of the EDNY, Honorable Rayond J. Dearie, after being crowned champions.
|
10.18.09 - The courtroom erupted with celebration after Our Lady's College of Ireland was announced as the 2009 Empire City Champions, defeating the reigning New Jersey State Champion, Mainland Regional High School. Both schools earned the right to compete in the championship round after finishing with equal records of 10-2. The final decision was made by 13 attorneys serving as jurors. The Chief Justice of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie presided over the round. Making their accomplishment even more impressive was the fact that Our Lady's College only had 4 weeks to prepare their case due to potential funding issues. "In addition to their incredible talent, the Irish girls were the heart and soul of this year's Empire," said Assistant Tournament Director David John Hommel, "from their passion in the courtroom, to their enthusiam on the cruise and at the hotel, this group is truly special". More to come soon. |

NYU’s Global Network University Opens NYU Abu Dhabi, the World’s Honors College In fall 2010, New York University will see its first class of freshman arrive at NYU Abu Dhabi, a visionary new college at the crossroads of the world. NYU Abu Dhabi combines the best of a research university education with the advantages of a highly selective college, offering a core global liberal arts curriculum in the arts, sciences, and engineering to some of the most accomplished and promising students from around the globe.
NYU: The Global Network University
NYU in New York City and NYU Abu Dhabi form the backbone of a fully interconnected Global Network University. NYU faculty and students from both campuses also study and research at global network academic centers in Accra, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Shanghai, and Tel Aviv.
Becoming Global Citizens
As students pursue course work and research across cultures, they gain much more than travel experience: they become fluent in other languages, conduct longitudinal research projects across two or more cultures, build expertise in their academic area, and participate in community-based internships. These global learning opportunities are not just time away from a home campus: they are an essential and valued part of the NYU experience, enabling students to become engaged, responsible citizens in communities around the world. - John Cosden; Xavier Preparatory School (Phoenix, Arizona):
| "The invitational was top-notch all the way: great hotel, great court house, great people. We enjoyed meeting teams from all over the country. Yours and the THS team's hospitality was evident from the first moment we met you. Special thanks also for the Saturday night cruise. We are excitedly looking forward to the October, 2009 Empire City Invitational." |
- David Post; Bishop Lynch High School (Dallas, Texas):
| "The Empire City Invitational was an amazing and constructive experience for myself and the team. Not only was the competition fierce, the critiques from NYU Law school students succinct and insightful, and the networking fruitful, having it in New York City was fantastic. The trials were held at almost the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge overlooking mid-town Manhattan, the hotel was first class all the way and there was sufficient down time to explore the wonders of the Big Apple. We are certainly going back next year and hope to do so for years to come." |

- Brian Jackson; Bishop Guertin High School (Nashua, New Hampshire):
| "We found the Empire City Invitational to be outstanding! The level of competiton was terrific, the accomodations were wonderful! The staff were highly efficient and knowledgeable of the law. The tour of Manahattan and Times Square was great. We are looking forward to competing again in October!" |
- Robert Thompson; Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida):
| "In all my years of coaching Mock Trial, I have never been involved in a competition that was as professionally run as the Empire Invitational. The attention to every detail of what a Mock Trial Competition should be about was absolutely the best that I have ever seen. The case, the structure of the rounds of competition, the level of competition, and most importantly, the civility in which everyone conducted themselves made for a fantastic experience. The social events planned were indicative of the wonderful hospitality of the hosts as well. We could not have been more pleased or honored to have attended and hope to do so in the coming years! For any team reading this considering whether to attend or not, I would wholeheartedly encourage you to do so! The experience and memories you will take with you are immeasurable!" |
